Machine Translators
Translation widgets which will translate your website from English to Spanish are available free, for example, from BING and GOOGLE. Users select a language, click on a button, and voilá everything is translated from English into Spanish.
We wish it were that easy.
Unfortunately, translation widgets are very poor and very inaccurate. It fact they are often comical. They miss a lot of words and expressions. They cannot translate items such as navigation buttons, images with text, and forms at all. And of course they do not take into account any cultural differences. They cannot tailor any message to find the Mexican market.
Machine translation can lead to many misunderstandings of exactly what your hotel offers. They simply are not very professional at all.
Spanish Speaking Employee
Some hotels assign the task of translating their website from English to Spanish to an existing American Spanish speaking employee. Unfortunately, they must take time away from their normal job to do the translating. They also might not have a thorough understanding of hotel terminology to translate from English to Mexican Spanish. If they haven’t lived and worked in the hotel industry in Mexico recently they might be out of touch. They usually have no idea how to work with web pages.
Professional Translation Company
These US companies generally offer to translate all kinds of documents from English into many other languages. They handle a wide list of industries. It will be very rare to find one that specializes in the Mexican hotel industry. Few can do web pages.
The quality of their work greatly depends on which freelancer they subcontract the work to.
American Freelance Spanish Speaking Translator
Many of these freelancers work part-time and do translations for the Professional Translation Companies. Many of them are really interpreters. They cannot handle anything more complicated that document translations. You really need two freelance translators. A native English speaker and a native Spanish speaker both of whom are familiar with the Mexican hotel industry, web pages – and who will be working closely together.
