Considerations when translating from English to Spanish.

- Literal word for word or sentence by sentence translations of English to Spanish will always sound stilted and artificial. Machine translations are “gross” approximations only and should not be used for serious translations. That is why we use a team of native English speakers in Redmond, Washington and Spanish native speakers in Guadalajara, Mexico to give you the best possible translation results.
- The problem with simply just translating a document or website into Spanish is that Mexican customers will have different needs and expectations. There are cultural differences that only a native speaker currently living in the country can appreciate. Sometimes you might need to offer separate Spanish language web pages and documents with a slightly different message.
- Unlike translation companies that promise to translate “anything” into “any” language, AEIOU specializes only in the hotel and tourist industry in the United States and Mexico.
- For document translations (advertising, brochures, flyers, and signage), translators need to know how to work with graphic designers and be aware that cultural icons are different. (American football terms will not be understood by a Spanish speaker in Mexico.)
- For website translations (ASP.NET, Dreamweaver, PHP, WordPress), translators also need to know HTML, databases, and coding. We can work with your current web developer to integrate our translations into your existing website code.
- For images with text like buttons and navigation, a translator needs to know how to work with the major graphic software programs such as Adobe and Flash.
- Spanish text takes up about 20-25% more space than English text which might mean that your layout (navigation, buttons, and text area) has to be changed.
- We can also help you with setting up and/or converting your reservations or inquiry system into Spanish.
- While a good translator is usually a native speaker of the target language, not all native speakers are good translators. They should be currently living in the country too.
