Facts about the Mexican Market

To reach the Mexican market your marketing materials and website need to be in Mexican Spanish – not English! That’s because less than 15% of Mexicans have ever taken a course in English. And only 5% can read it well.

Mexicans (just like us) prefer their own language.Mexico has a 1.6 trillion economy making it the 14th largest in the world* with a GDP per capita of over $15,113.

While the USA is in a recession, the Mexico has a growing economy which is expected to triple by 2020.

After Canadians, the next largest group that visits the USA are Mexicans.

With a population over 112 million, Mexico has a large middle-class with money to spend at your hotel or tourist attraction – if they can understand what you have to offer.

When Spanish speakers are given a choice between an English or Spanish website:

  • 80% would visit the Spanish website
  • 76% would visit the Spanish website more frequently
  • 72% would conduct business on the Spanish website
  • 76% would think they are valued as a Spanish-speaking customer/citizen

Mark Twain
“I have a prejudice against people who print things in a foreign language and add no translation. When I am the reader, and the author considers me able to do the translating myself, he pays me quite a nice compliment — but if he would do the translating for me, I would try to get along without the compliment.”
Mark Twain

* For example, Mexico produces more automobiles, electronics, and high tech products than the US and Canada combined. And it has a larger GDP than Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan and every country of Latin America except Brazil.Source: Wikipedia
